In addition to the traditional field guides and identification manuals and keys, and the more modern apps and e-books for smart phones and tablets, there are numerous on-line resources to help recorders identify the wildlife they encounter. This list is not exhaustive, but it comprises some of the more useful sites that we have encountered. It does not include all of the specialist forums which will normally offer identification advice. These can be located by using a search engine.
Some groups are challenging and difficult to identify and may require microscopic identification of a specimen. However, this is not always the case, so begin with the common species and please contact us for help or advice.
It is important that our records are accurate, so if you are not sure, please ask for an expert to confirm your identification. We all make mistakes, so if a record you have submitted later turns out to be incorrect, please let us know.
